Jazz inspired by Bach, Brazil, and beyond

Some music invites you to listen. This music invites you to wander.

Led by guitarist and composer Peter Sprague, The Wild Blue brings together an extraordinary ensemble of classical and jazz musicians, where Brazilian rhythms, jazz improvisation, and the timeless influence of Bach flow together in unexpected and beautiful ways. Joined by flutist Beth Ross Buckley, a classical string trio, and a jazz quartet, the ensemble creates music that is both adventurous and deeply personal.

At the heart of the music are Sprague’s original compositions and imaginative arrangements, weaving together diverse traditions into a sound that is both sophisticated and engaging.

The ensemble’s debut recording, The Wild Blue (2009), earned widespread acclaim and led to the prestigious Chamber Music America New Jazz Works Grant in 2010. Through that award, Sprague composed the large-scale work Dr. Einstein’s Spin, inspired by and dedicated to Albert Einstein. Following numerous performances of the piece, the group recorded it for their second album, Dr. Einstein’s Spin, further expanding their unique fusion of chamber music and jazz.
