David Morales Boroff — a “highly-charged violinist” (Jazzwise) — presents his first program of entirely original music alongside four of San Diego’s finest musicians. The quintet’s lineup spells jazz, yet the music runs on contradictions of idiom: spontaneous improvisation driving meticulous composition; the comforting chaos of many musical dialects resolved into something distinctly American; classically honed lyricism turned loose on everything your violin teacher told you not to do. Above all, the program unfolds like a story.
