LA JOLLA MUSIC SOCIETY ANNOUNCES OUTDOOR CHAMBER CONCERTS

San Diego, CA La Jolla Music Society (LJMS) has announced a series of outdoor chamber music concerts located in the Wu Tsai QRT.yrd at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, in addition to the previously announced Spring Live Stream Series. The decision came after the state’s announcement that beginning April 1, live performances will be permitted outdoors. The decision coincides with San Diego County’s shift from purple to red tier on the State Blueprint for a Safer Economy, allowing LJMS to hold in-person concerts with limited capacity and other COVID-19 safety regulations in place.

“After months of waiting, we are thrilled to be gearing up for live classical concerts. With infection rates decreasing, restrictions on public gatherings are beginning to lift, and with the recent shift to the Red Tier, we’re able to offer outdoor concerts with socially distanced seating.  Despite the limited capacity, it will still be great to have people on site to hear live performances, and we’re excited to be able to offer programming and to welcome audiences safely back to The Conrad. And it’s a wonderful way to make use of The Conrad’s Wu Tsai QRT.yrd.” – Todd Schultz, President & CEO

The concerts in the QRT.yrdfeature new programs from SummerFest Music Director Inon Barnatan, Philippe Quint, & Alisa Weilerstein, Yefim Bronfman, and Zlatomir Fung & Richard Fu, all of whom will be performing different musical programs as part of our Spring Live Stream Series. These new programs showcase some of the most beloved works of the chamber music cannon by the likes of Chopin, Beethoven, and Schumann. The courtyard concerts have a maximum capacity of 98 patrons, allowing a total of 588 attendees across the six performance dates.

“In our artistic planning, it was important for us to remain optimistic while creating contingency plans so that we could easily pivot as restrictions changed. This forward-thinking—and the tremendous support of our Board and LJMS family—is what allows us to make an announcement like this one today. None of this would have been possible without the commitment of the incredible artists who were willing to go on this journey with us by holding dates until the last possible moment. We’re proud to be among the first organizations to return to live in-person chamber music concerts in a more traditional setting and so excited to offer these concerts in The Conrad’s elegant, intimate Wu Tsai QRT.yrd.” – Leah Rosenthal, Artistic Director

COURTYARD CONCERTS
Each courtyard concert will be subject to the most recent San Diego County COVID-19 regulations. Patrons and staff will be required to wear masks at all times, unless actively eating or drinking. Seating, entry, and exit points will be socially distanced.
