In this very special evening, jazz icon Wynton Marsalis joins renowned pianist Cecile Licad and with a 10-piece all-star jazz ensemble they perform the score to the film Louis. Featuring a score of primarily Marsalis’ own compositions, this silent film from 2010 is an homage to Louis Armstrong, Charlie Chaplin, and the birth of American music.
In Louis, 1907 New Orleans provides a backdrop of lust, blood, and magic for 6-year-old Louis as he navigates the colorful intricacies of life in the city. Young Louis’ dreams of playing the trumpet are interrupted by a chance meeting with a beautiful and vulnerable girl named Grace and her baby, Jasmine.
Shot by Academy Award-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond and directed by Dan Pritzker, Louis with live accompaniment is a modern reimagining of early silent film and an experience in the theatre you won’t soon forget.
