San Diego District Auditions

The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition 2023

No registration or ticket required; however, a suggested donation of $20 is greatly appreciated

The Metropolitan Opera Competition is designed to discover promising young opera singers and assist in the development of their careers. It has been sponsored by the Metropolitan Opera National Council since 1954, including hundreds of volunteers from across the US, Canada, and Mexico. Some of today’s greatest singers got their start in the auditions, including Renée Fleming, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Eric Owens and Nadine Sierra. Please join us for the 2023-24 San Diego District Auditions.

For the first time since the competitions began in the mid-50s, we had a National Winner this year from our San Diego District Competition!  Each year over 1,000 young singers compete, and the road to the national competition in NYC is a long one.  We are thrilled that one of six 2022-2023 National Winners is our own Sarah Saturnino, (third from the right in the photo), who is evoking raves and cheers wherever she sings and destined to be an international super star in the near future!

This event will run throughout the day, ending after winners’ announcements around 5 pm. Between each singer’s two arias will be a pause for ingress and egress, for it is not necessary to stay the whole day; however, the competition is so enjoyable, you won’t want to leave!
