Kaki King: BUGS
The JAI
One of the most acclaimed rock guitarists today blends music and technology with the wild and wonderful world of BUGS!
Inspired by her own children, Kaki King has created an enchanting concert that combines music, light, and imagery to encourage children to think about nature, ecology, and the animal kingdom. Explore the world of daytime and nighttime insects in this innovative new work in which Kaki’s guitar is both an instrument and a movie screen. As she plays, different notes feed information into her signature projection mapping program, which in turn triggers images of the busy and fascinating lives of bugs onto her guitar. Kaki’s “magic guitar” becomes a kaleidoscope of color and sound illuminating the extraordinary world of BUGS.
Composer and musician Kaki King is considered one of the world’s greatest living guitarists, known both for her technical mastery and for her constant quest to push the boundaries of the instrument. Don’t miss this new La Jolla Music Society commission, perfect for families and children aged 3-12.
Kids can also enjoy an open area in front of the performance space for dancing and movement.
