JAZZ @ THE JAI: Brandee Younger Trio

The New York Times says 2021 GRAMMY nominee Brandee Younger has “almost single-handedly made a persuasive argument for the harp’s role in contemporary jazz.” See this jazz harp sensation and her trio up close in the intimate surroundings of our cabaret-style space.

George Varga of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes, “Happily, several gifted young jazz harpists are building on the musical foundation laid by the pioneering Dorothy Ashby and Corky Hale in the 1950s, and Alice Coltrane in the 1960s and ’70s. Long Island-bred Brandee Younger is one of them…her playing — which tastefully mixes in elements of hip-hop, funk and more — is so accomplished and versatile that she has deftly collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, Kanye West and Lauryn Hill, in addition to such notable jazz artists as Christian McBride, Makaya McCraven and England’s Shabaka Hutchings.”
