American Perspectives I: Goin' Home
Prelude Interview with Kings Return and SummerFest Music Director Inon Barnatan hosted by Eric Bromberger · 6:30 PM
Part of
When Dvorák discovered African-American spirituals, sung to him by his student, he was moved to write the New World Symphony and proclaim that American composers should base their music on these wonderful songs. In our first Synergy event in 2021 and a one-of-a-kind evening, the sensational Kings Return gospel quartet will interweave their unique arrangements of spirituals, old and new, with string pieces by composers who were inspired by these songs, such as Wynton Marsalis, Florence Price, and Coleridge Taylor Perkinson, culminating in one of Dvorák’s chamber masterpieces, the American String Quintet.
