Timothy Ridout
Violist Timothy Ridout is a “Young Instrumentalist of the Year” Opus Klassik winner (2025) and Gramophone Award recipient (2023). His 2025–26 season features appearances with the BBC Symphony, Orchestre de Paris, and Dresden Philharmonic. He maintains a close collaboration with Sir Simon Rattle and recently gave the world premiere of Mark Simpson’s Viola Concerto.
Ridout’s prestigious honors include the Royal Philharmonic Society 2023 Young Artist Award, a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, and First Prize at both the Lionel Tertis and Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competitions. A former BBC New Generation Artist, he has performed with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Tonhalle-Orchestre Zürich under conductors such as Sir András Schiff and David Zinman. As a chamber musician, Ridout serves as Guest Artistic Director at Festspiele Frühling Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (2026) and is in residency at Junge Wilde in Dortmund. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and Kronberg Academy, he records for Harmonia Mundi and performs on a c. 1565–75 Peregrino di Zanetto viola.
