Paul Neubauer
Violist Paul Neubauer, described by The New York Times as a “master musician,” became the youngest principal violist of the New York Philharmonic at age 21. A two-time GRAMMY® nominee, he has performed as a soloist with more than 100 orchestras, including the New York, and Los Angeles Philharmonics, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas, and San Francisco Symphonies and the English Chamber Orchestra. Neubauer is a prolific champion of new music, having premiered concertos by composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Joan Tower, and Aaron Jay Kernis. In the summer of 2026, he will premiere a new concerto by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. His 2025 discography includes all-Bartók and Shostakovich albums for First Hand Records. Neubauer is a frequent performer with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and a member of the trio SPA. He serves as the artistic director of the Mostly Music series and is on the faculty of The Juilliard School and Mannes College. Neubauer has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning, A Prairie Home Companion, and in Strad, Strings, and People magazines.
