Mark Dresser
Mark Dresser is a GRAMMY®-nominated bassist, improviser, and composer dedicated to expanding the contrabass’ sonic and expressive possibilities—an exploration culminating in his upcoming book, Mapping the Bass. He has recorded over 150 albums, with Tines of Change named among Downbeat’s “Best Recordings of 2023.” After a decade with Anthony Braxton’s Quartet, he has collaborated with artists ranging from John Zorn and Joe Lovano to Anthony Davis. Since 2007, he has pioneered telematic performance, frequently combining networked music with social commentary in global concerts from Deep Tones for Peace to recent socio-political works like Witness: Consequences and Testimonies. Awarded the Doris Duke Impact Award and two Shifting Foundation Awards, he is a Distinguished Professor of Music at UC San Diego and a former International Society of Bassists board member.
