Kevin Newton

Manhattan-based hornist Kevin Newton is a GRAMMY®-winning chamber musician, soloist, and educator. As the horn player for Imani Winds, he has performed with prestigious ensembles including the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and Roomful of Teeth. His versatile career includes performing in the Broadway pits of The Lion King and The Wiz, as well as serving as former principal horn of the Waynesboro Symphony. A dedicated advocate for new music, Newton has premiered works by composers such as Valerie Coleman and Carlos Simon, and has commissioned solo pieces from Jeff Scott and Tsuneo Imahori. Also a composer, he recently fulfilled a commission for the Juilliard School Pre-College. Newton holds faculty positions at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Manhattan School of Music’s Contemporary Performance Program. He has delivered masterclasses at Yale and Oberlin and was a featured artist at the 2024 International Horn Symposium. He holds degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and Manhattan School of Music, and is currently pursuing a DMA at SUNY Stony Brook.
