Edson Scheid

Praised by The Strad for his “polished playing,” Brazilian violinist Edson Scheid is a prominent New York-based soloist and concertmaster. He currently serves as concertmaster for Opera Lafayette and is a member of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. A versatile performer on both modern and period instruments, Scheid frequently tours globally with elite ensembles like Les Arts Florissants and Il Pomo d’Oro. His notable performances include a Carnegie Hall debut as soloist alongside Joyce DiDonato, and leading ensembles at prestigious venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. Renowned for his interpretations of Paganini’s 24 Caprices, Scheid released a critically acclaimed recording of the cycle on baroque violin for Naxos. His second solo album, On Paganini’s Trail, was the first period-instrument recording of its repertoire. An active educator, Scheid has given masterclasses at Juilliard, UCSB, and the Il Pomo d’Oro Academy. He holds degrees from the Mozarteum University Salzburg, Yale, and Juilliard, where he was a Kovner Fellow. His accolades include Juilliard’s Historical Performance Concerto Competition and Yale’s Broadus Erle Prize.
