Cho-Liang Lin
Violinist Cho-Liang Lin was the Artistic Director of La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest from 2001 to 2018. Born in Taiwan, he launched his career in 1980 with a debut performing the Mendelssohn Concerto with the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta. Since then, he has performed as a soloist with virtually every major orchestra globally. A student of Dorothy DeLay at The Juilliard School, Lin later joined the school’s faculty and was appointed a professor at Rice University. Lin currently leads the J&A Beare Premier Festival in Hong Kong and founded the Taipei Music Academy & Festival in 2019. Musical America named him the 2020 “Instrumentalist of the Year.” A champion of contemporary music, he has commissioned works from composers such as John Williams, Tan Dun, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. His extensive discography has earned Gramophone Record of the Year awards and GRAMMY® nominations. Lin performs on the 1715 “Titian” Stradivari or a 2000 Samuel Zygmuntowicz.
