The arts touch people’s lives in profound ways: in the understanding of themselves, their connection to local and world communities and cultures, and in understanding their own creativity. The Conrad will broaden and enrich our region by becoming a premier home for diverse performing arts programming and education, collaborating with artists, organizations, schools and the community to encourage the creation, appreciation and understanding of the arts, as well as foster a venue for all to enjoy.
The Conrad will be
A home for culture and entertainment
—As one of San Diego’s great cultural institutions, La Jolla Music Society in its 47-year history has brought world-renowned artists to perform in venues throughout San Diego. The Conrad will bring more world-class performances and cultural experiences to La Jolla while enabling La Jolla Music Society to expand its programming.
A home for education
—The Conrad will provide a new location for a broad and expanded range of programs for San Diego schools through daytime classes, lecture/demonstrations and performances by La Jolla Music Society, as well as many other San Diego groups and organizations.
A home for the community
—In light of the planned repurposing of Museum of Contemporary Art’s Sherwood Auditorium, La Jolla Music Society will build a new and better concert venue in La Jolla to serve as a broad community resource for arts organizations and patrons across San Diego.
A positive economic impact
—In the heart of La Jolla Village, The Conrad will be an important community asset and gathering space and will stimulate local economic vitality. Restaurants will have pre-theatre patrons and local shops will serve audiences as they walk from their parking destination to daytime and evening performances. Local hotels will be able to offer small and medium sized groups the added attraction of two spaces to hold meetings and social functions. All of this will have a tangible and clearly beneficial effect on the local economy.
A positive reputational impact
—Through its exquisite design, superb acoustics and top-tier level of performances, The Conrad will become a prominent destination for cultural tourism and enhance San Diego’s growing reputation as a prominent arts city.
